Continuing Competence

"To maintain procedures to assess and enhance the efforts of licensed practical nurses to keep abreast of current knowledge and technological advances related to the practice of nursing"


LPNs are required to complete 24 contact hours of continuing education and engage in 400 clock hours of LPN practice in each 2 year reporting period. Reporting occurs on the even years.

Effective July 1, 2005, all licensees who have not completed two (2) contact hours in end of life care including pain management will be required to report those hours: (1) at their first licensure renewal when CE is required; or, (2) at the time of reinstatement of a lapsed or inactive license.
